DRIFT INTO BLACK was spawned in New Jersey in 2017, forging a distinctive strain of melodic doom metal built on crushing riffs, mournful melodies, haunting keyboards, and gothic atmosphere. Featuring Craig Rossi (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Paul LaPlaca (bass, guitars, keyboards), and Klemen Markelj (drums), the band creates music that is as emotionally devastating as it is sonically heavy.
Over the course of five albums, Drift into Black has steadily carved its own path through the darker reaches of doom metal. Their debut, Dead Suns Under the Forever Moon, arrived in 2018, followed by Anthems From the Darkest Winter (2019), Patterns of Light (2021), Earthtorn (2022), and Voices Beneath the Rubble (2024).
Lyrically steeped in darkness, depression, isolation, loss, and gothic imagery, Drift into Black’s music explores the beauty and devastation found within the human condition. Their songs balance crushing heaviness with sweeping melodies and atmospheric passages, creating an immersive sound that is both bleak and strangely beautiful.
On November 6, 2026, Drift into Black will unveil their sixth full-length album, When Ashes Remain. A concept album, When Ashes Remain continues the story first introduced on 2021’s Patterns of Light, returning to its narrative and expanding the tale into a darker new chapter. The album carries forward the themes and atmosphere of its predecessor while pushing the band’s melodic doom sound into deeper and more ominous territory.
Five albums deep into their journey, Drift into Black continues to explore the space where crushing heaviness, gothic melancholy, and cinematic storytelling collide.
